WABC-TV is seeking an RF Operator who will work closely with the Assignment Desk, News Reporters, and Managers to ensure the timely production of newscasts and special events. The RF Operator will be responsible for coordinating and executing live shots via microwave, IP satellite, Dejero/LiveU/ TVU, or other cellular bonded technology. The live shots are an integral part of WABC’s daily local newscasts and special events.
The successful candidate will have a consistent track record in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of daily local news gathering. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
This is a full-time staff position. The schedule will be a weekday morning shift. This position is covered under the NABET-CWA / ABC Master Agreement.
Responsibilities:
Book and facilitate live transmissions for all WABC News productions, including tracking these orders in internal ingest systems.
Route video as appropriate to monitor feeds, quality control (QC), and provide signals to other parts of the business.
Coordinate feeds with newsgathering, control rooms, ingest, master control facilities, bureaus, show operations, and live streaming operations.
Plan transmission for complex remotes, including network special coverage in coordination with The Media Center (TMC) at ABC Network.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in live transmission coordination and/or control room operations.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in news production/operations
Must be team-oriented and able to solve problems in time-sensitive situations.
Ability to work harmoniously and proactively with production teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with video encoders/decoders.
Experience with cellular bonded technology and microwave transmission for news production
Editing proficiency in Adobe Premiere
Knowledge of Dalet
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
