Job Description

Science Writer
We’re looking for a great writer and storyteller who loves science and research communications and wants to join our talented content team at our growing university and academic health center. The qualified science writer should be comfortable creating content in various styles (print, online, social etc.) and adept at humanizing and distilling complex research and scholarship into accurate and consumer-focused content. The team member will contribute to media/PR work, print/online magazine content development and production, online blogs and infographics, social media posts, newsletters and project management, as needed.

Job Requirements

Keys to success:
  • Ability to interview highly accomplished researchers and faculty and have the appetite and curiosity to learn new fields of applied and basic science quickly
  • Resourceful and proactive about mining for stories from our internal clients through regular outreach to scientific/ health/ engineering/ textiles/ architectural experts; attuned to external trends and topics that can act as fodder for articles
  • Creative partner who is collaborative and can ideate interesting angles that will connect our research and scholarship with audiences from racially, culturally, socioeconomically and gender-diverse backgrounds
  • Can work collaboratively with colleagues in the science-communications content team as well the larger marketing and communications team
 
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience writing about science for a general audience, or science journalism degree
  • Experience that demonstrates an understanding of/ability to quickly learn and translate a broad range of biological sciences (cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, neuroscience, etc.), as well as the fields within applied research, architecture, engineering and textile sciences
  • Comfort with Word Press, Adobe Experience Manager or similar content management/publication systems
