Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, deadline-driven Video Producer to help produce compelling video journalism for our digital and social platforms. This role will be responsible for pitching, shooting, editing, and publishing video content that enhances our news coverage, from breaking news to enterprise stories. This journalist would also lead our new daily morning show for our Baton Rouge and Lafayette newsrooms, and will be a key part in our coverage of LSU sports and Louisiana’s diverse food scene.

The ideal candidate combines strong visual storytelling skills with sound editorial judgment and thrives in a fast-paced newsroom.

Responsibilities
• Pitch, produce, and execute original video stories aligned with our editorial mission
• Shoot and edit video for breaking news, features, explainers, and social media
• Collaborate with reporters, editors, and photographers on multimedia projects
• Edit video packages under tight deadlines while maintaining high production standards
• Optimize video for web, mobile, and social platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, etc.)
• Write headlines, descriptions, and captions for video content
• Ensure accuracy, fairness, and ethical standards in all video journalism
• Maintain and manage video equipment as needed
• Stay current with emerging video trends, formats, and tools

Job Requirements:

Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, film, or equivalent experience
• Proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Canva or similar)
• Experience shooting video with vlogging cameras and mobile phones
• Strong news judgment and storytelling skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as news demands
Preferred
• At least one year’s experience producing video for digital-first news organizations
• Familiarity with motion graphics, After Effects, or basic animation
• Experience with live video or streaming
• Experience with script-writing and familiarity with local and national video creators
