Assignment Manager

ABC57 News is looking for an ambitious leader to be our next Assignment Manager. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is organized, has a sense of urgency, and knows how to build relationships with sources.

ABC57 is an award-winning newsroom focused on delivering impactful local news and storytelling. We are committed to gathering responsible, meaningful stories that make a difference in our community, not just “content.” We expect everyone to treat employees with respect and be a team player.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Manages news assignment calendar.

Manages who is assigned gear and vehicles.

Runs editorial meetings.

Creates coverage plans for large news events such as elections, breaking news, weather team coverage, etc.

Works with other news managers on editorial decision making.

Monitors scanners and social media for news tips and breaking news.

Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in an applicable area of study i.e. journalism, mass communication, telecommunication, multimedia, political science.

At least two years of news producing experience.

Strong leadership skills and news judgement.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must know how to use and monitor social media platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and more.

Knows how to file public records requests.

Knows how to locate online court records.
