Objective

Atarah Lael (she/they) is a multidisciplinary poet, visual storyteller and journalist. Born and raised on the outskirts of Chicago, they began to form an impression of a multifaceted approach to creativity as a teen when they began dance training in Hubbard Street Chicago’s Youth Program. They then paired their love for creative expression with organizational expertise when they assumed leadership of their high school’s poetry club and award-winning student newspaper, Crier.

Now a graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelors of Science in Journalism and minors in Black Studies and Creative Nonfiction, Atarah’s skillset spans the gamut of written and visual storytelling. In all of her work, she leads with a community-forward approach and strives to light a path for artists of abundance like herself.
