Shermonta Grant is a published writer, accomplished editor, and project manager with decades of experience in the publishing world. She specializes in developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, writing, and manuscript evaluation, helping clients refine their ideas into clear, compelling narratives.
Shermonta works with a diverse client base across fiction and nonfiction projects. As an editorial freelancer, she collaborates closely with clients to strengthen storytelling, develop marketing themes, manage editorial timelines, and provide consultations on website structure and content strategy.
Before launching her freelance career, Shermonta spent more than two decades at the American Geophysical Union in Washington, D.C., where she held several editorial and leadership roles. As Program Manager, she oversaw the production of more than 25 books and coordinated the development of over 100 print and digital publications and promotional materials. Her work required close collaboration with designers, editors, marketing teams, and web specialists to ensure high-quality deliverables and timely publication.
During her tenure, Shermonta interviewed world-renowned scientists and authored articles for
Eos, a weekly publication covering Earth and space sciences, and for
Earth in Space, a magazine designed for K–12 audiences. She also initiated and conducted a notable interview with renowned NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, highlighting Johnson’s groundbreaking contributions to space exploration.
Shermonta holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Strayer University, graduating with honors. She is actively engaged in the editorial and journalism community through memberships in the Editorial Freelancers Association, ACES: The Society for Editing, and the National Association of Black Journalists, where she serves on the planning committee for the annual Media Institute.
In addition to her professional work, Shermonta is a volunteer staff writer for Grace Magazine and the Editorial Freelancers Association’s BIPOC Newsletter. She is also the founder of the
Reading – Inspire and Engage Book Club, an initiative that promotes literacy, thoughtful discussion, and the power of storytelling while also serving as a platform for guest authors to speak about their work.
