Job Description

Hearst Television in Charlotte, NC is seeking an experienced Sr. Director of Business Intelligence & Reporting to lead the development, implementation, and evolution of the data infrastructure and reporting solutions that power revenue pacing, sales performance, and fulfillment visibility across our omni-channel advertising business (linear, digital, and addressable).

This role blends strategic leadership with technical execution — translating business needs into scalable reporting platforms, defining functional requirements, and managing a cross-functional team to deliver high-impact BI solutions. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in data architecture and reporting workflows, combined with hands-on experience driving cross-team alignment and reporting that informs business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Enablement
    • Define the vision and roadmap for reporting and BI solutions that support revenue generation, pacing, optimization, and campaign delivery.
    • Serve as a key interface between sales, revenue operations, and data teams to ensure reporting platforms meet evolving needs and unlock business value.
    • Translate business requirements into actionable technical deliverables for data engineering and analysts.
    • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and reporting accuracy across the organization.
  • BI Platform Development & Reporting Delivery
    • Oversee the design and execution of data pipelines and models that support core BI use cases, including revenue pacing, forecasting, fulfillment, and executive dashboards.
    • Manage delivery of intuitive, scalable self-service dashboards (e.g., Power BI) that provide timely insights to sales, finance, and leadership.
    • Approve and QA all frontend visualizations and reports to ensure data quality, stakeholder usability, and alignment with business definitions.
  • Data Architecture & Engineering Oversight
    • Partner with internal engineering teams and corporate data leadership on data lake/data warehouse structure, performance tuning, and best practices.
    • Guide implementation of data modeling, ETL/ELT workflows, API integrations, and metadata management to ensure scalable backend support for BI.
    • Ensure data infrastructure is performant, reliable, and aligned with operational SLAs.
  • Operations, Governance & Compliance
    • Collaborate with DevOps to establish monitoring, alerting, and incident response for BI systems and pipelines.
    • Champion data governance practices including lineage, cataloging, access controls, and documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with security standards, internal policies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Team & Vendor Management
    • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of analysts, BI developers, and data engineers.
    • Evaluate, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts related to data platforms, tooling, and GAI-enhanced reporting automation.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies (e.g., GAI for data teams) and integrate tools that accelerate analyst productivity and insight generation.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years in data engineering, business intelligence, or analytics platform roles, with 5+ years in team leadership or platform ownership.
  • Proven ability to define BI/reporting requirements and deliver backend data and frontend dashboards that support revenue operations.
  • Strong command of modern BI and data tools: Power BI, SQL, BigQuery, Fabric/Synapse, Airflow, Kafka.
  • Familiarity with scripting tools like Python and query/posting tools like Postman for testing API and pipeline performance.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipeline development and debugging; comfort with both streaming and batch data workflows.
  • Knowledge of project and documentation tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub (standardized across media divisions).
  • Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills, with experience reviewing and approving analytics outputs for business use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in high-volume transactional or media-related data systems.
  • Experience building reporting for omni-channel sales (linear, digital, addressable).
  • Exposure to GAI tools to enhance analyst workflows or support self-service enablement.
  • Experience in both build and scale phases of BI/data platform maturity.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
