40/29, the ABC affiliate in Rogers, AR, has an opening for a Weekend Meteorologist/MMJ. We are looking for a Meteorologist/MMJ who knows the science and can tell a relatable weather story. You will be an accurate forecaster, keep our viewers and employees safe, convey appropriate tone, summarize complicated information, and stay calm in all situations. You can develop story ideas, conduct informed interviews, build sources, and deliver compelling live shots. You will be a strong, take-charge reporter who hits the ground running every day. In addition to credibility, poise, and personality, you are not afraid to head out into the field and ask the tough questions. You will be a versatile, enterprising self-starter who is fast, efficient, works well under tight deadlines, can develop sources, and has excellent live reporting skills. You will report to the News Director.
Responsibilities
Get our viewers ready with accurate, compelling, and understandable weather forecasts
Will provide urgent, immediate weather information before and during severe weather events
Can simultaneously provide content on TV, for our radio partners, and on our digital platforms
Will use all the technology available to us, to tell an intriguing weather story
Will be deployed in the field during weather events
Gather information and summarize facts and content for broadcast
Plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news or special project assignments
Work with or without a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and captivating sound
Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, that accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to break stories of significance
Will contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day
Work on different stories and projects at once and meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure.
Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Requirements
Professional or schooling on-air experience handling breaking news and severe weather coverage
Professional or college reporting experience
In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting
Dynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentation
Knowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high-powered radar data
Experience with common television weather systems
Your demo reel is indicative of your everyday work
Write clear, correct, compelling copy that supports images gathered
Operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology
Can work in all weather conditions
Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
Have a valid driver's license and a clear driving record
NWA and CBM seals are a plus
Related military experience will be considered
In-person attendance is required
