POSITION SUMMARY:
KERA is seeking a full-time Managing Producer a new daily local news program. The Managing Producer will share oversight responsibilities with the Executive Producer, Talk Shows, and be responsible for the daily production of a show designed to bring North Texans together around the stories that shape their day.
This position will directly oversee a team of producers and collaborate with Newsroom leadership on show content. They will help balance the hard news with a lighter touch by looking at arts, culture and what it’s like to live in North Texas. A successful candidate will be committed to helping the audience understand how the news of the day connects to their lives and be driven to better connect listeners to their community
This position is classified as FLSA exempt, is not eligible for overtime and reports to the Executive Producer, Talk.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Supervise daily production in consultation with newsroom leadership to ensure that the show serves as a bridge between Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
Map out daily features and recurring segments, coordinating continued coverage of breaking news and pre-produced content.
Balance hard news with lighter stories and community-focused segments.
Supervise a team of producers charged with booking show segments and guests and translating segments into digital content and community engagement.
Direct live broadcast of the show five days per week in coordination with the technical director.
Supervise a team that can execute regular live tapings or broadcasts with equal emphasis on live experience and production quality.
Run daily pre- and post-show meetings looking at both urgent and continuing coverage plans.
Coordinate with newsroom leadership to bring KERA journalism and talent into the show.
Work with KERA partners, including the Fort Worth Report, Denton Record Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, on regular and reoccurring content features for The Local Show.
Oversee digital content outputs from show material, including on-demand audio, news reporting, social media and other forms of digital content.
Coordinate with show correspondents and North Texas-based resources for segment opportunities related to their areas of expertise.
Develop engaging program ideas and creative approaches to covering news and current affairs that evolve with audience behavior and prefer.
Maintain the highest editorial standards of accuracy, ethics and balance.
Ensure that guests and on-air voices reflect communities across North Texas.
Participate in newsroom management meetings.
Participate in on-air fundraising activities, as needed.
Represent KERA at professional and public events as assigned.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

A minimum of 5 to 10 years in journalism, content creation or relevant experience.
Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
Ability to juggle multiple projects/priorities on deadline.
Knowledge of/experience in audio production and editing.
Strong content editing/proofreading skills, including knowledge of AP style.
Ability to exercise sound news judgment and follow KERA/NPR ethics and editorial standards.
A passion for public media and serving a diverse audience.
BONUS IF YOU BRING:
Knowledge of North Texas people, cultures, issues and geography as well as national and international issues and events
Working knowledge of Spanish and/or other languages common in Texas
Previous live radio production or hosting experience
SALARY RANGE
$80,000-$90,000 annually, depending on experience

LOCATION:
We expect that this position will work out of our Dallas office in Fair Park at least 95% of the time.
