Job Description

At The Spark, we bring Central Pa. together to talk about interesting topics and spark a better understanding of what’s going on in your community. If you’re interested in being a part of these conversations, then WITF has the perfect opportunity for you.  As the Host and Producer for the show, you will lead a team that covers a variety of topics that impact the residents of Central Pa. This role includes:

  • Creating, editing and managing audio content.
  • Producing live, remote in field, live-to-tape, and/or pre-produced content.
  • Ability to understand news formats including two-ways, produced features, audio postcards, signature segments, series, using audience voice recordings, and production and pacing.
  • Ability to work quickly and make timely and effective decisions in situations requiring prompt attention.
  • Ability to work under multiple daily deadlines, plan and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated success as a creative, effective, and forward-thinking team leader.
  • Ability to generate creative ideas and fresh approaches to familiar subjects.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and to interact effectively with co-workers.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to high ethical standards.
  • Provide an engaging and professional on-air presence.
  • Take part in on-air fundraising campaigns.
  • Support audience growth activities (data-driven decision making on topics, write show note drafts, web posts, newsletter copy, etc.) 
  • Participate in station projects as appropriate in alignment with station needs/priorities, including election coverage, on-air fundraisers, and broadcast special production. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Candidates should have at least a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field and experience with on-air reporting and interviewing. Proven reporting skills in a daily news environment as well as outstanding writing, producing and sound editing abilities. Social media, digital, video, audio, and photography skills are a plus. Knowledge of word processing and sound editing software as well as familiarity with “newsroom software,” including WireReady are also required.
