The University of Southern California seeks a Senior Editorial Director who is an exceptional writer/editor and creative content leader to manage all aspects of editorial operations within Advancement Communications, an integrated marketing communications team working in support of University Advancement. Well-qualified candidates for this position will exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as solid expertise in developing creative material from ideas to execution. Projects will span a variety of advancement and alumni marketing campaigns and media, including print collateral, presentations, emails, ads, promotional materials, events, social media, videos and websites. 

The ideal candidate is an original thinker, inquisitive, and enjoys solving complex communications and marketing problems in collaboration with specialists in design, photography, video, and interactive media. The editorial director understands the power of storytelling and knows how to bring an idea to life on the page, on the screen, or in a live event setting. The senior editorial director will set high standards for writing and inspire clients and their audiences with creatively crafted copy. This individual will also work closely with other writers and direct reports to ensure those standards are met. The senior editorial director is driven to produce award-winning material that also delivers results and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Location:  Los Angeles, CA

Keys to success in this role include:

  • Proven experience producing editorial content with a keen eye toward message and tone for all manner of collateral and deliverables, printed and digital.

  • Extremely strong skills in writing, editing and verbal communication; meticulous spelling and punctuation, with fastidious attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Managing all day-to-day writing assignments, editing and operational functions of Advancement Communications’ editorial team.

  • Understanding of the importance of language, voice and story and how they fit into an overall marketing strategy.

  • Strong experience in developing and leading teams on content strategy, writing and editing.

  • Adaptable and enables creatives to support one another and do their best work.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, work under tight deadlines to keep projects on schedule and adapts well to a changing environment.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with creative directors, art directors, designers, producers, project managers and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, writing or related field

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience
