Manages proactive and reactive media relations in support of Walgreens corporate business and initiatives, as well as field and store operations and issues. Helps to ensure positive media coverage for the brand through strategic PR planning and tactics, and supports corporate programs aimed at enhancing the company’s reputation through earned media coverage. Also develops and executes multi-channel (print, broadcast, digital, social, etc.) media strategies that advance the company’s business and image externally. Supports key corporate announcements including mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships and other company news. Assists in handling issues management and crisis communications, investigates and researches information needed to respond to media inquiries, develop holding statements and other materials. Researches interview topics, develops press releases, messaging documents and acts as a company spokesperson. Manages certain day-to-day media relations responsibilities that may include media monitoring, newsroom management and other internal PR vehicles. Job Responsibilities Supports company goals and mission by developing and implementing media relations programs and strategies aimed at enhancing brand reputation and consumer perception. Develops and implements communications to publicize the company’s leadership in executive, workplace and business press; coordinates strategy development and positioning. Develops strong relationships with editors and reporters of key business and industry news organizations. Performs crisis communications activities compatible with the corporate crisis plan, as directed. Identifies, arranges and prepares executives for media interviews. Works with public relations counsel on critical issues management, and assists in strategy preparation and development of position statements for responsive media relations activities. Oversees development of and manages the activities of special public relations and communication projects, including management of outside public relations agencies; coordinates with the Internal Communications team, and works cross-functionally with many other departments within the organization. Develops and implements targeted external communications to publicize new programs, services and initiatives. Develops messaging documents, FAQ and other support materials. Responds to media inquiries regarding company affairs, initiatives, stores and positions on wide range of issues, and represents the company as an official spokesperson; coordinates positioning and messaging strategy with key stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and at least 7 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans. Knowledge of media, reporting methods and public relations strategies / tactics. Experience writing and editing using the Associated Press stylebook. Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives). Experience working across organizational boundaries. Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, senior editors, news reporters, etc. Experience gaining internal consensus and presenting solutions to the public either directly or through the media using media relations techniques. Experience representing an organization as an official spokesperson. Experience analyzing/framing strategic issues and transforming the information into influential/persuasive language. Experience handling confidential information. At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace. At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership. Preferred Qualifications News/journalism background, experience working in a newsroom. Media Relations and PR/communications experience in a pharma, healthcare, or retail environment. Experience working for larger, publicly traded company.
