Job Description

The Center for Reproductive Rights is looking for a media relations guru who wants to make a difference and is interested in serving as a Media Relations Consultant on our Communications team.  We are a legal advocacy nonprofit that uses the power of law to advance reproductive rights as human rights! This position will be working on a major Supreme Court case that could decide the fate of Roe v. Title: Media Relations Consultant

The Role: The Media Relations Consultant will be supporting 5 state advocacy organizations that participate in the Southern Regional Table, organized initially in response to the Center for Reproductive Rights’ upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (“Jackson Women’s Health”). 

She/he/they will play a critical role supporting these 5 organizations with the objective of raising their visibility in the press and highlighting the leadership of the people who will be most impacted by this Supreme Court case  through earned media for this work. 

The Media Relations Consultant will develop and execute proactive earned media strategies as well as handle any rapid response for these groups. She/he/they will also closely coordinate with the Center for Reproductive Rights Communications Department and U.S. Program State Team to ensure high-impact outcomes as well as support in further amplifying the Southern Regional Table’s work on the Center’s institutional channels. 

She/he/they will engage journalists at the national, regional and local levels to promote the 5 groups’ work and initiatives as it relates to the Jackson Women’s Health case. This includes securing media coverage and interviews (online, radio, print, and TV); pitch and place op-eds in key media outlets that support winning the Supreme Court case; developing materials for media moments, events and campaigns; and preparing spokespeople for media appearances. She/he/they will also monitor the media landscape for upcoming opportunities and challenges, and work with these stakeholders to develop strategies for responding to them, often on tight deadlines.

Job Requirements


  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in media relations or journalism;  

  • Strong demonstrated experience in reproductive health, rights, or justice field 

  • Successful track record of developing and executing communications strategies and campaigns in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment; 

  • Strong experience in media and press strategy including print, broadcast and digital 

  • Existing press relationships required 

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate professionally under intense pressure;  

  • Exceptional writing, editing and messaging skills; 

  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively; 

  • Proficiency with PR software such as Cision is a plus 

  • Extremely sharp organizational skills and ability to manage large volumes of projects, tasks, and files; 

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment with a wide variety of strong personalities; sense of humor; 

  • Experience and competency in working with diverse communities 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • Experience working in the South, a plus 

  • Fluency in Spanish, a plus 

  • Ability to travel within the U.S. as needed.
