Job Description

Confidential is a well-funded digital news startup preparing to launch in Washington, D.C. this fall. Our goal is to create a radically different publication, one that uses a distinct set of formats to deliver a nuanced and comprehensive view of the most important stories of the day.  We are hiring journalists excited to get in on the ground floor and help us shape our identity.

We are seeking a skilled Editorial Illustrator that will create illustrations and designs alongside a team of specialists in data visualization, branding, and journalism. This person would be responsible for creating unique graphics and illustrations to coincide with our storytelling. They would also be expected to independently create high-end graphic designs and work with other content contributors.

Job Requirements


  • Organize daily requests and projects
  • Communicate with reporters, editors and the design leads on project needs and requests
  • Problem solve and interpret design feedback from the editorial team
  • Manage deadlines to ensure timely delivery of assets 
  • Concept illustrations and designs for digital publication
  • Design original illustrations for newsletters, social, and app
  • Create a positive, collaborate, supportive culture by being solution-oriented, and encouraging collaboration across the visuals department
  • Ensure that we are pushing design boundaries and reimagining solutions for every execution, from small projects to large initiatives


  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across a newsroom or for a daily publication
  • Expert in the Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills
