The Post-Gazette is looking for an innovative journalist with a deep understanding of food and the skill to write about it in ways that feed the interest of Pittsburgh’s passionate foodies who have helped make this one of the top food towns in the country. The Post-Gazette’s food editor will help produce a weekly food section, direct staffers and freelance writers, assign and edit stories, write regular food posts and engage with our audiences on all platforms.
Essential Job Requirements:
Understand how the food and restaurant industries work
Be able to write timely, well-reported and thought-provoking stories
Possess strong editing skills
Perform effectively on deadline with designers, both for digital and print presentations, to create beautiful and compelling multimedia packages
Be eager to invent and design experiences and innovate new story forms that become regular elements of our coverage.
Have a strong background in social media and online journalism
Develop a vision for the Post-Gazette’s food coverage

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism – required 5 to 8 years of experience, preferably on digital platforms – required 2 years of managerial/supervisory experience – preferred Strong line editing experience – preferred Knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat - required Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills; Strong strategic planning skills and attention to detail; Ability to effectively mentor staff; Display exceptional work ethic, time management, and organization skills.
