The Spruce Eats is hiring an Associate Food Editor to manage recipe testing and editing. We are looking for a digitally savvy editor with a passion for making recipes that work. The Associate Food Editor will join a fun, spirited team to work on one of the biggest food sites on the web and to make it even better.
About Your Contributions:
Manage workflow of recipe testing, assigning recipes to freelance recipe testers, resolving questions and incorporating feedback, managing completion of recipe tests
Oversee tester edits, editing quotes, and review surrounding recipe content for accuracy, helpfulness, style, substance, cultural sensitivity and fulfillment of intent
Assist recipe testers with editorial publishing systems
Evaluate and upload recipe tester photos.
Collaborate with photo and video teams to update visual content, as needed
Edit new content from writers, recipe developers, and editorial staff, social media and email editors
Participate in editorial meetings and pitch ideas for new content
Work with team on ad-hoc projects with the goal of improving content quality
Occasionally shopping for and supporting photo and video shoots for the website and social platforms
Curate and promote our best content via email newsletters, across site landing pages
Represent The Spruce Eats and serve as a brand ambassador at events, press previews, and more
1-2 years of experience working for a digital food publication
Outstanding organizational skills and innate ability to pay attention to detail
Ability to solve problems independently and collaborate with other teams and departments
Proven aptitude for communicating and collaborating with both remote editorial workers and in-house editorial team members
1+ years of experience shopping for ingredients for recipe testing
1+ year of practical culinary experience in a test kitchen
Culinary diploma preferred
Knowledge of a broad range of cuisines, ingredients, and cooking techniques
Ability to fact check and research ingredients, recipes, and cooking methods
Mastery of written English and ability to edit recipes according to AP and The Spruce Eats brand style
Professional experience assessing photography for culinary accuracy and brand style
Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs; prior experience editing recipes a major plus
Has active relationships with diverse recipe testers and culinary subject experts
