The Home Team is seeking an assistant editor who will help manage the team, own The Times's digital report on weekends and use our digital platforms to build stronger relationships with readers.
This editor will work closely with the Weekend Editor, Phil Pan, determining what we promote on our home screen and how it is framed, and oversee push notifications.
Strong writing and editing skills, and knowledge of Times style or the ability to absorb and apply it quickly, are essential. Writing and approving push notifications, headlines and news summaries, and working collaboratively to make adjustments, is a critical part of the job. Editors in this role also approve Times references and uses of edgy language.
This job is a dayside position that will require working Saturdays and Sundays.The role includes supervising staff editors and senior staff editors, giving performance feedback and assisting with evaluations. We are also looking for someone who can help us maintain a sharp focus on short- and long-term objectives, including to build a culture that prizes creativity and initiative.
Assistant editors are also important collaborators with our colleagues in technology, product and design on evolving forms of journalism and the platforms that deliver it.
The ideal candidates will have excellent communication and people skills, digital experience and a collaborative, collegial temperament. Experience as a manager is not required, but interest in effective and energetic management of people is a must.
