Job Description

About VTDigger

VTDigger is a nationally-recognized, born-digital nonprofit news organization. We are known for our award-winning investigative reporting, nitty-gritty approach to local and state news, and our entrepreneurial model.

At a time when the commercial local news industry is failing, VTDigger is one of a handful of nonprofit news organizations in the nation that has developed a promising model of sustainable funding for journalism. The organization has grown quickly in just a decade, becoming the go-to source of news for the state of Vermont.

We have a startup vibe and an unsurpassed commitment to our mission, which is to shine a light on problems that have an impact on Vermonters' lives by exposing the truth, cutting through the noise of echo chamber spin and reviewing the actions of public officials.

VTDigger is already providing regional coverage of the state, and we are poised to ensure that readers in every community in Vermont get the coverage they deserve as the local news landscape continues to diminish. The CRO will play a major role in helping to execute this vision.

Now more than ever, local news needs visionaries with an entrepreneurial mindset and an understanding of reader empowerment in an age of misinformation and disenfranchisement.

If you are an idealist with real world experience who believes in the power of a few committed people making a difference, please consider joining us at VTDigger.

Fast facts: We have 700,000 unique readers a month on average, 23 employees, and a budget of $2 million a year. For more information, go to our About Page.

Organizational impact: VTDigger's daily readership has increased 2.5 times since January because of the Covid-19 crisis, topping out at 1.3 million for the month of April. Reader donations have increased by 40% over the past three years.
