Nonprofit organization for journalists of color seeks a News Manager for a new news platform geared toward content for predominantly but not exclusively African American audiences. The ideal candidate should have:
A journalism background with superb writing skills
A college degree in journalism or an associated field
3-4 years of experience in news management
A demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of newsroom deadline demands
Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills
An ability to work independently from home and virtually with multiple contributors
A clear understanding of issues and perspectives in the African American community
An ability to shoot and edit video
Copy editing skills
Knowledge of AP style
The successful News Manager candidate would report directly to the Executive Director or a designate. The News Manager would decide daily on which stories are produced and are to appear on the website. The manager would interface with freelancers, staff and partners for the production and aggregation of content for website dissemination.
This website’s launch is contingent on the degree of financial impact from COVID-19 developments. The earliest hiring date would be August 2020.
