We are looking for a Social Media Associate who can create meaningful social media experiences, especially on Instagram, to enrich our community and expand audiences. The ideal candidate knows Instagram inside and out, brings creativity and fun to visual stories, writes engaging social copy, and wants their work to have a real impact. You’re passionate about the power of social media and the mission of Edutopia to drive positive change in education. You feel energized by a small team environment where everyone rolls up their sleeves, works hard, and is committed to making a difference.
Edutopia is based in San Rafael, California. While we would prefer a Bay Area candidate, we encourage strong remote applicants to apply.
This is a 12-month, project position reporting to the Head of Marketing & Analytics.
Plan and create compelling Instagram posts on a daily basis, in a variety of formats: images, excerpts, stories, carousels, polls, and videos.
Write engaging and clever social copy, incorporating relevant hashtags and emojis.
Test new ways to leverage UGC and surface the authentic voices of educators on Instagram.
Drive significant Instagram follower growth for Edutopia through organic and paid campaigns.
Work effectively with a distributed team of designers, video producers, and editors to request and gather creative assets
Identify emerging tools and techniques to further Edutopia’s goals
Monitor and modify strategies based on audience insights
Support overall social media programming on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest as needed.
2+ years experience building a large, engaged following on Instagram for an established brand, digital media company, or national nonprofit
Professional experience managing Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest accounts
Professional experience with leading social media management platforms (e.g., SproutSocial, Later.com, Sked Social, Tailwind, or others)
Must be a creative and innovative thinker
Excellent writing skills and strong attention to detail
Basic design skills, including the ability to create simple images, animations, and stories using the best apps and tools for Instagram
Experience working with creative teams, such as editors, designers, and video producers to showcase and distribute digital content to wide audiences
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask on deadline
Familiarity with Trello, Slack, and Zoom is helpful
Familiarity with preK-12 education topics and trends is preferred
