The Senior Managing Editor is responsible for oversight and management of staff and operations in the NJTV Newsroom, including broadcast, digital and emerging platforms, ensuring accurate, timely delivery of news programming. Specific responsibilities include: • Plan news broadcasts by determining and scheduling all of the content that goes live; • In collaboration with the Executive Producer, oversee the direction of the daily broadcast; • Oversee quality control, monitor stories for accuracy and ensure that broadcasting rules and regulations are followed; • Ensure innovation of programming excellence, the technical development of the organization's existing delivery platforms, and a thoughtful approach to new platforms; • Manage all staffing and operations including: budgeting; hiring news producers, bookers, talent and production teams; • Establish and ensure implementation of goals for creative daily digital program; lead teams from idea through delivery; • In collaboration with NJ spotlight, identify synergies with the broadcast and develop new products and content to draw upon the talents of the entire newsroom; • Work closely with legal, standards and finance to uphold best practices for all broadcast and digital content; • Integrate website and digital platforms; • Continuously monitor news developments and network coverage; identify breaking news stories and develop creative coverage angles; • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include: • Extensive broadcast production experience, including hands on television experience; • Strong relationship building skills with talent, news and production teams; demonstrated track record of leading, motivating and mentoring staff; • Ability to create feature segments; • Ability to innovate; develop new ideas and implement new ways of production; • Ability to operate quickly and calmly within a dynamic environment, while setting and maintaining key priorities; • Experience in managing multiple ongoing productions simultaneously and successfully; • Ability to produce quality content within a broad range of budgets; • Highly organized, efficient and effective; excellent communicator; able to hold team members accountable; • Strong planning and problem solving expertise; able to make quick and solid decisions, independently; • Excellent editorial judgement; Sharp writing skills; high ethical standards; solutions focused; • Excellent collaborator and ability to work with teams across the organization as well as external partners; • Ability to travel as required; able to work outside of normal business hours as job duties or assignment requires, sometimes with little or no advance notification.
