Job Description

Working alongside the professional staff of WAMU, interns contribute to the day-to-day operations of the station. As a WAMU intern, you will also be provided access to training opportunities within the station by editorial and production staff and from professionals around the D.C. metro area, including the talented staff at NPR.

You can apply for any or all of our open internships by submitting a single application through our online form. The application form will ask you to indicate which internships you are applying to. The application form also allows you to link to your online portfolio and provide other information about your experience in media and journalism.

Interviews & Candidate Selection

The internship supervisors will contact candidates for phone, Skype and/or in-person interviews. Candidates may be asked to interview with multiple supervisors or with multiple members of a team in order to gauge a candidate’s strengths, interests, skills and experiences. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis through November 30, 2019. Final offers will be made no later than December 6, 2019.

Important Dates

We are now accepting applications for WAMU’s Winter/Spring 2020 Internship Program. The application period closes at 5:00 PM on November 15, 2019. Final offers will be made no later than December 6, 2019. The internship begins on January 13, 2020 and ends on April 3, 2020.

Job Requirements


To be eligible for an internship at WAMU 88.5, you must be 18 or older. You must also be authorized to work in the United States.

Compensation & Credit

This is a paid internship; interns will be paid $15 per hour. The total compensation received during the internship is based on hours per week and the length of the internship period. Interns can expect to work, on average, between 25 and 35 hours a week. Schedules will be determined once an offer is made. Academic credit can also be received for an internship.
