Education Week is looking for a dynamic, creative Visuals Editor to join our newly formed Visual and Immersive Experiences team. The team works with departments across the company to provide high quality visual storytelling in a variety of mediums. Come inspire and empower our audience with us!

Education Week’s parent company, Editorial Projects in Education (EPE), is a non-profit media organization that serves the nation’s leading K-12 policymakers, educators, researchers, marketers and other influencers with informed, independent and highly-respected journalism and research, with the goal of improving U.S. K-12 education.

Reporting to the Deputy Managing Editor, the Visuals Editor will be responsible for managing photography for our products, editing video and interfacing with editors on visuals ideas.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Work collaboratively with editors and producers on EdWeek’s Web team to ensure that high-quality, timely, and relevant news images, video, and/or other multimedia packages are available for news items published throughout the day and week.
  • Monitor photo workflow throughout production and proofing process
  • Photograph or shoot video at live events, in studio, and in other capacities as needs arise Edit video on a project basis
  • Work with video producers on development of stories including proofing pitches, editing scripts and helping with video production.
  • Collaborate with social media team to create visual assets
  • Interface with editors on visual ideas for stories
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Journalism or other visuals-related communications degree; two years of related leadership and visual journalism experience in media-related field
  • Strong visual journalist with extensive knowledge of photo and video technology
  • Possess excellent news judgment, with an ability to recognize news and handle a range of visual assignments with speed and sound professional judgment
  • Ability to provide visual storytelling guidance to other content teams by being able to conceptualize and deliver compelling visual work, and to articulate visual concepts and standards with clarity and confidence
  • Excellent photo-editing skills, with the ability to choose one single image or build a contextual, multi-photo story package
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with various levels of management and clients
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere, and good working familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, latest digital display applications, and relevant Internet publishing platforms
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects is a plus
