The Chattanooga Times Free Press is seeking a digital reporter who will be responsible for reporting and writing daily stories for the Times Free Press website as well as posting stories and content from other staff members on the organization's website and social media pages. The candidate should be passionate about the missions of journalists and the role of a newspaper in society; should have an innovative mindset about digital storytelling and how to continue the digital transition; and should be naturally competitive and comfortable with leading and driving culture change.

Thrive in a breaking-news culture
Write quickly and effectively
Demonstrate strong news judgment
Show strong SEO and headline writing skills
Help create a stronger/unique voice for the Times Free Press on social media platforms
Understand site metrics and use analytics to inform content decisions and deepen engagement
Drive ambitious traffic, engagement and digital subscription objectives
Work to shift the newsroom culture to ensure newsroom staff members — some of whom still hold a print-first mentality — understand and meet digital expectations
The digital-only reporter and editor will be expected to curate, report and write posts as well as produce (and/or oversee the production of) interactive features, maps, graphics, photo galleries, listicles and video — working collaboratively with web team members, reporters, photographers and editors.
The end goal is a rich and vibrant digital experience that serves our audience, generates user feedback, builds relationships with readers and inspires community interaction.

Have strong writing abilities and excellent communication skills
Possess the ability to work collaboratively and in a team-based setting
The ability to coach and mentor others and grow their digital skill sets
Familiarity with AP style
Some knowledge of video editing
Solid news judgment
Good sense of humor and optimism about new ways of reaching audiences and telling stories despite the headwinds the industry faces. :)
