The Nation, a progressive media outlet that publishes a weekly print magazine and website covering politics, culture, and the arts, seeks an editor from September 1, 2019 to July 2020. We take pride in our progressive values, and we strongly encourage candidates who identify as people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and/or gender nonconforming to apply. The position is half-time, and the editor should be able to work in the New York office two to two and a half days a week. We’re looking for an experienced, flexible editor who knows The Nation well and has worked with a variety of authors on both domestic and foreign issues from a progressive perspective.
Candidates should be flexible and have the ability to coordinate closely with other staff editors as well as the art director, and they should be able work with writers who already contribute regularly to The Nation. Particularly valued will be editors who can bring new writers to the magazine who will broaden the magazine’s coverage and complement The Nation’s current contributors. Candidates should be experienced in editing for both online and print formats, and on feature articles as well as op-eds, columns, and editorials. Familiarity with WordPress and InCopy is desirable.
