The Palm Beach Post is looking for a reporter to cover the hotbed of politics in Florida: the trends, personalities, diversity and growth in the state. This reporter also will help lead coverage of the high stakes 2020 election, including reporting from President Trump's backyard.
This dynamic, high-profile position will cover Palm Beach County politics, campaigns and government, as well as play a major role in coverage of President Trump's frequent trips to Mar-a-Lago by serving in the White House Press Pool.
This reporter also will work with our GateHouse Media partners across the state in covering state politics, from hot races for top elected posts to coverage of the Legislature. While a focus on Palm Beach County issues is paramount to Post readers, work that is of statewide interest will be shared on GateHouse properties throughout Florida.
As for the 2020 elections, Florida is a swing state, not just in the battle for the White House but in congressional races, too. We're planning non-stop coverage of the 2020 campaigns, including strategy, debates, primaries, conventions -- nothing will be left on the table in what is going to be a historic year for politics in America in one of the country's ultimate political battlegrounds. We’re looking for someone who can identify topics of interest, then dig deep, talk to people, and come up with angles that hit home with readers.
We'll need breaking news, but also smart enterprise and investigative coverage, that looks at every aspect of the political year, from fundraising to media strategy to messaging to get-out-the-vote efforts. Our Politics Reporter will get to know the candidates, and the players behind them. He/she also will be tasked with identifying grassroots efforts and voter momentum -- and the issues and moments that swing them.
This reporter will be built for digital, meaning knowing what people are talking about on social media, being able to shoot video and take photos, and being prepared to post quickly. They will be comfortable speaking on camera for Facebook Live or video; they should be savvy on social media; they should be excited about adding elements to their stories that enhance the understanding and/or enjoyment for the user, including embedding social media, videos, photos, charts, etc. They’ll be required to distribute their content through many platforms.
Interested applicants should reach out to Politics Editor Antonio Fins ASAP at firstname.lastname@example.org. This job won't be vacant for long -- the campaign has begun and Mr. Trump will be back in town soon.
