Job Description

Work Schedule:

FT; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Somewhat frequent nights and weekends may be required.

General Description:

The Marketing & Communications creative team Videographer is on staff to assist in communicating the university’s authentic voice, mission and values in higher education through digital storytelling. This position serves as a videographer, director and editor on a wide variety of marketing, promotional, and informational videos for PLU. This professional has considerable experience in conceiving and developing concepts for film and video as part of larger content development strategies to drive traffic across digital, social and mobile platforms. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Conceive and develop creative solutions for addressing university initiatives through audio-visual assets.
  • Attend meetings and offer expertise in development and production on the video project requests.
  • Scout shoot locations and assess possible obstacles in filming and provide solutions or alternatives.
  • Write and produce photographic or video narratives; recommends, determines and procures type of talent needed for voice-over work.
  • Communicate clearly the vision for projects through scripts and storyboards.
  • Maintain an asset management system.


  • Conduct interviews with students, staff, faculty, alumni and campus visitors and ensure that valuable sound bites are captured.
  • Execute shoots on site and on location including lighting, audio, camera operation and talent direction. Additionally, handles assignments requiring special lighting, multiple locations, creativity, special audio needs, custom graphics, and animation.
  • Maintain all equipment in proper working order including troubleshooting and minor repairs as necessary.


  • Edit and assemble final visual/audio program material creating compelling and visually interesting products; observe brand standards, ensure consistency and relevancy to production; monitor technical quality of end product; create photo galleries and slideshows with audio.
  • Produce, edit and distribute media content as required which may include photographs, motion pictures, motion graphics, animation, audio and music.
  • Be open to soliciting feedback from colleagues, students, staff and faculty as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Full video with audio production and post-production knowledge including encoding and compression skills.
  • Ability to be artistic and creative with regard to video production and images; ability to create compelling and/or visually interesting compositions.
  • Ability to manage time/priorities and multitask to handle both long term projects and those that require quick or aggressive turnarounds.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology landscape.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to be self-directed, self-motivated and self-sufficient.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  1. 5 years of related experience. Education may substitute for some experience.
  2. High school diploma or GED.xperience with Premiere or Final Cut Pro (Premiere preferred).
  3. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university or college.
  • 6 years of video production experience, with a minimum of 3-4 years of digital video experience.
  • Proven success in creation and delivery of video assets for digital media.
