Job Description

PBS NEWSHOUR WEEKEND features a summary of the day's national and international news, using renowned experts to offer analysis.  Each weekend broadcast offers original, in-depth field reporting on topics including education, healthcare, the economy, energy, science and technology, religion, finance and the arts. Hari Sreenivasan anchors.
An immediate opportunity is available for a Multimedia/Digital Editor with a strong news background to join the PBS NewsHour Weekend team. The Multimedia/Digital editor will oversee the digital platform and help chart editorial strategy for NewsHour Weekend, as well as manage editorial content and supervise digital staff, working closely with the Executive Producer and others in the newsroom.
This position is full time. The schedule is Wednesday through Sundays.

Responsibilities include:
  • Writing and line-editing online news , features and headlines and preparing reports for the “Rundown” news blog; Curate videos from content creators and translate into broadcast content;
  • Create and build editorial assets that supports the use of multimedia resources including text, images, video and various multimedia pieces;
  • Design coordination, site editing, oversight of video usage and or distribution;
  • Work with producers to coordinate video and online features to compliment the broadcast production; Create social media content;
  • Generate ideas for stories, social media outreach and new ways to present content for fb, Instagram, twitter and other platforms to grow social channels;
  • Work with the broadcast team to produce the weekend newscast on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Collaborate and contribute to broadcast editorial discussions;
  • Process assets on the weekends for interviews, pre-planned productions and day-of-air interviews.

Job Requirements

  • Three years of experience working on a news website along with demonstrated ability to create digital content to drive and grow audience reach;
  • Excellent top editing, line editing and copyediting skills;  ability to work under deadline pressure;
  • Strong news judgment; Superior story and headline writing ability;
  • Proven ability to effectively supervise and lead a small digital staff;
  • Prior experience using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter;
  • BS/BA, or equivalent experience.
Candidates with the ability to shoot and edit video using Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere, proficiency with HTML, Photoshop, and/or experience working with WordPress CMS are preferred.
