NJ Advance Media is looking to fill a key leadership position in its newsroom, an editor for data and investigations. The candidate will oversee a team of diverse and skilled data and visual reporters and lead the organization's highest-level enterprise and investigative projects with a digital-first approach and an emphasis on journalism that gets results.
This person will be responsible for leading the newsroom's project agenda, including idea-generation and selection, reporting oversight, editing, presentation, user experience, design, roll-out strategies, audience maximization and engagement. This person will work seamlessly with reporters on other teams to surface and elevate the best ideas from all corners of the newsroom.
The editor for data and investigations will work closely with social, video and web teams to ensure all aspects of reporting, design and publication are coordinated from the beginning of any project. The editor will also oversee shorter-term content -- including maps, interactives and other data visualizations -- on a weekly basis and be expected to react quickly to contribute data-driven coverage on major breaking news.
The ideal candidate will have:
--Management experience in a major news organization
--Strong editing and project management skills
--Experience of leading data-driven and/or investigative reporting projects
--A passion for impactful journalism
--A degree in journalism, communications or political science and at least 5 years of reporting experience
