Canopy is a new startup in NYC, Boston & SF that is giving people back control of their data with private machine learning. We’re building an app to help people discover the sights, sounds and stories that inspire their lives. We want to connect people to the best parts of the internet every day, without compromising their identity or their privacy. We’re looking for an editor to join our team and shape the voice of our product.
We’d love to hear from you if:
You are excited to curate personalized recommendation experiences across mediums, including things to read, things to listen to and whatever comes next.
You have a background in journalism or media, and can help shape our content strategy.
You are passionate about making algorithmic-driven discovery more relevant and personal for people, helping them understand why they’re getting a recommendation and how they can have control over what they experience.
You are also passionate about helping content creators understand algorithmic-driven discovery so they can find and grow their audiences.
You can develop a strategy that harnesses the power and reach of technology to amplify marginalized or underrepresented voices.
You enjoy partnering with engineers, product teams and others to build and ship a product that changes the way people think about privacy on the internet.
You anticipate needs and take initiative, you communicate thoughtfully, and you’re comfortable giving and accepting feedback.
You care deeply about the social implications of algorithmic systems, including addressing fairness, transparency and bias in machine learning, or are curious and eager to learn more.
We have big dreams, and we won’t reach them without a diverse team. CANOPY is not just committed to changing the way the world thinks about privacy, but to pushing our industry to become more diverse and inclusive and to address issues of fairness and bias in all that it builds. We value applicants who are people of color, women, queers, trans, gender non-conforming and gender fluid people. If this is you and you want to have an impact on the issues we care about, your voice will be warmly welcomed at Canopy.
Canopy provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and employment applicants. In keeping with our beliefs and goals, Canopy is committed to a policy where no employee or applicant will face discrimination/harassment based on race, color, creed, religion, age, sex, pregnancy or childbirth (or related medical condition), sexual orientation, partnership status, gender identity or expression, marital, parental or familial status, caregiver status, national origin, ethnicity, alienage or citizenship status, veteran status, disability status or any other legally protected basis. We also strive to prevent other, more subtle forms of inappropriate behavior, such as stereotyping.
