The Nation, a print magazine and website that covers politics, culture, and the arts, seeks a Research Director to ensure the accuracy of articles, manage our renowned internship program, and oversee fact-checking. The Research Director recruits, selects, trains and supervises interns, and may also manage freelance fact-checkers. The Research Editor works with other editors on enterprise and investigative articles and is responsible for implementing a corrections policy, maintaining a fact-checking manual, and coordinating legal review. The Research Editor also assists in fundraising for the internship program, organizes intern seminars, and plays an integral role in managing digital copy flow.
Applicants must be rigorous about the truth, have a keen eye for details, be able to multitask, and have excellent communication skills. Previous fact-checking experience is a must. Experience with content management systems, basic HTML, and InCopy is preferred, as is experience working with students or aspiring journalists.

This position is covered by the collective-bargaining agreement between The Nation Company LLC and The NewsGuild of New York, CWA Local 31003, AFL-CIO. The starting salary is $63,795 and can scale up depending on experience with great benefits.
