Job Description

WGBH News is looking for an energetic production assistant to work closely with the show’s Executive Producer on all aspects of the production of Greater Boston and Beat the Press. The candidate should be well versed in current affairs, be detail oriented with a positive attitude, and must be a team player. Experience in news and broadcast media is required. 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

- Work with Supervising Producer to create story files for Host and provide Host with research and research outlines for all stories as requested 
- Fact-check information by phone and other sources for both Greater Boston and Beat the Press 
- Coordinate visual assets for show, including feeds from other networks, web, and WGBH archives 
- Work with web editors to keep the Greater Boston web page up to date 
- Work with digital team to maintain and expand Greater Boston social media presence 
- Assist supervising producers and contributors in all areas of production, including story set-up and field work 
- Prepare the list of all fonts/keys (and check spelling) for the daily show 
- Operate Chyron system during shows when required 
- Work with and train interns 
- Perform clerical duties as required 

Essential Functions 

45% Research, fact-checking, and other editorial assistance 
25% Coordinate and prepare visual assets for show from both internal and external sources 
20% Coordinate Web, digital and social media presence and content 
5% Train and work with interns. 
5% Clerical and other duties.

Job Requirements

Experience with television and news production is required. Applicants must have strong editorial judgment, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure. Organizational and time management skills are also critical. Must be able to work in a team. 

Final Cut Pro editing experience is preferred, but not required.

Bachelor's degree required.
