Legacy.com is the top online destination in the end-of-life/memorialization space. More than 40 million unique visitors monthly come to Legacy to read and share obituaries, leave condolences, send flowers, find grief support, and learn about funeral planning options. The company connects its audience with meaningful content through an international network of community-based newspaper and funeral home partners, and Legacy is ranked among Quantcast’s Top 50 most visited domains in the United States.
We’re looking for a copywriter to help shape Legacy’s voice across a wide array of online user experiences, writing lines that are in equal parts powerful and sensitive, compelling and compassionate.
Working at the juncture between our marketing, content, product, design, and commerce teams, the copywriter will translate the goals and concerns of various stakeholders into effective messaging for a wide assortment of projects, ranging from one-word call-to-action buttons to complete web pages and from one-sentence ad lines to detailed product promotional sheets.
This position demands a writer who’s proficient at code-switching between diverse professional and cultural idioms as necessary. The successful candidate will be equally confident in the language appropriate for offering sympathetic obituary-writing help to a grieving family in Detroit, selling flowers to a supportive neighbor in suburban Oregon, and discussing end-of-life estate/funeral planning options with a retiree in South Carolina.
This is a full-time position based in our Chicagoland offices.
Please submit your resume along with three relevant copywriting samples (and anyexplanation of the samples you may consider necessary).
