The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at North Carolina A&T State University is one of only three academic programs in North Carolina accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Diverse Issues in Higher Education recently ranked the department the No. 1 producer of African Americans receiving degrees in journalism and media-communication disciplines. It annually enrolls about 500 students with 30 full- and part-time faculty and staff members specializing in different aspects of today's journalism and mass communication and committed to helping students to engage, learn, grow, and succeed as they gain practical experience in:
A state-of-the-art television studio
A well-known broadcast radio station, WNAA 90.1 FM/HD
Online and print student newspaper, The A&T Register
Student filmmaker and public relations groups also a part of the department’s offerings. Students can earn a Bachelor of Science Journalism and Mass Communications degree in three areas of concentrations:
Multimedia Journalism
Mass Media Production
Public Relations
A minor is also available in each of the concentrations, and students majoring in other disciplines can declare this minor.
