Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School invites applications for a four-year, full-time, Renewable Term Appointment as an Assistant Professor of Journalism + Design, to begin July 2022. 

Eugene Lang College is an undergraduate liberal arts college with an open curriculum and a focus on interdisciplinary and seminar-style learning.  Eugene Lang College promotes active learning through small seminar discussion classes. Candidates should feel comfortable in a liberal arts setting and be excited to work closely with undergraduate students. 

The Renewable Term Appointment (RTA) is a university-wide faculty appointment type. The first contract is generally for 4 years; contracts may be renewed indefinitely, dependent on university need and successful review at the end of each contract.  RTA faculty are considered principal faculty and are eligible for research support. They may also may be considered for promotion in rank.

The Journalism + Design program integrates design methodologies and playful pedagogy with the traditional journalism skills, values, and habits of mind. It inculcates the rigorous critical thinking, reporting and storytelling needed to navigate a complex, competitive, and unpredictable information ecosystem. 

Students who major or minor in Journalism + Design enter a variety of roles at organizations that value the gathering, assessment, and delivery of timely and accurate information, as well as careers in adjacent professions. The program emphasizes journalism’s role in maintaining a democratic society. 

Responsibilities: The teaching load is five courses per year with the expectation of an advising caseload and service to the college and university.
