JIM MURPHY
Jim Murphy is a veteran news and entertainment producer with a long record of success in broadcast journalism. Starting as a high school intern at WPIX-TX in New York he became the producer of the flagship newscast at ABC’s flagship station by the age of 21, and went on to a series of major positions including executive producer of CBS This Morning, The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, Good Morning America and then a leading executive at CNN for the past eight years, where he was originally hired to revamp the network’s morning programming in 2013.
Currently the Senior Vice President of Programming at CNN, he oversees CNN’s in house specials and documentaries unit, the Investigative units for television and digital, and the acclaimed CNN Heroes program. He also returned to supervise CNN’s morning news programming for the duration of the pandemic and the 2020 election year to help guide CNN’s daily coverage of the most important stories of this generation. While running the morning newscasts in 2020 and 2021, he also produced several of the most successful news specials in the network’s history.
He has worked alongside many of the major talents of our times, including Dan Rather, Bob Schieffer, Diane Sawyer, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, Chris Cuomo and many more.
His work has led to a multitude of industry awards, including a dozen news and documentary Emmys, Edward R. Murrow awards, Columbia DuPont awards, and most recently, a George Foster Peabody Award for his documentary “The Hidden Workforce: Undocumented in America.”
