Company Description:

The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority announces the opening of the position titled REPORTER for the News and Public Affairs Department in Oklahoma City. Applications will be taken until the position is filled. The most qualified candidate(s) will be contacted for an interview.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
This position is responsible for general assignment, television news reporting for OETA’s weekly news program, the Oklahoma News Report, and other news and public affairs programs, as required. The primary responsibility includes identifying and developing story ideas, scheduling shoots, research, news writing, conducting interviews, and other duties associated with producing in-depth television news stories. In addition, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing content suitable for online distribution and utilizing social media and other new media techniques. There is an emphasis on legislative and state government-related stories particularly during the legislative session and stories on issues of statewide significance. This is NOT a “feature” reporting position. It emphasizes hard news and in-depth research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field required along with a minimum of two years’ experience in reporting, writing, producing, and editing. Must be able to take personal initiative to develop stories that are consistent with the mission of the OETA News and Public Affairs Department and the Agency strategic plan. Must possess strong reporting, critical thinking, teamwork, and interpersonal skills and be a positive representative of OETA. Must be able to collaborate creatively with photojournalists, graphic artists, producers, and news management to produce effective television news stories. Interest in and knowledge of Oklahoma state government and issues of statewide significance is important. Technical experience in broadcast journalism and a demonstrated desire for continuing professional development will be viewed favorably.
