Carolina Public Press is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonideological, provider of online investigative and in-depth news content on public interest issues to readers across North Carolina. Executive Director Angie Newsome founded CPP in 2011 in Asheville with a focus on covering the western region of the state. In February 2018, the organization went statewide. In 2019, CPP led the Seeking Conviction project, an investigative collaboration with 10 other news organizations across the state to examine sexual assault prosecutions. The project was instrumental in the passage of legislation that closed loopholes in sexual assault cases in North Carolina.
