The California Department of Public Health, a nationally accredited public health department, works to protect the public's health in the Golden State and helps shape positive health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. The CDPH is currently recruiting for a Deputy Director, Office of Communications, who will be aggressively elevating the messaging and branding of the Department of Public Health. The Deputy Director will eagerly and proactively “lean in” to the vast array of opportunities to enhance and expand communication strategies across all available spectrums for public health in California. This includes managing a communications team, communicating with national and international media, supporting campaign launches, coordinating media requests, and supporting speaking engagements and events.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or a related field; an advanced degree may be a plus. Also requires 7 to 10 years of broad-based journalism experience delivering communication strategies and successfully executing them in a dynamic and fast-paced organization. Important to note, this position does not require prior government experience.
The annual salary for this position ranges from $136,212 to $151,728 and will be based upon the qualifications. Moving and relocation reimbursement may be offered. The State of California offers a comprehensive benefits package, including CalPERS Retirement.
