Director of Communications
Franklin County Children Services is a public agency mandated by federal and state law to ensure that our community’s children are safe and well cared for. Through collaboration with families and their communities, we advocate for the safety, permanency, and well-being of each child we serve in a manner that honors family and culture.

Franklin County Children Services is currently seeking a Director of Communications. This employee directs a comprehensive agency communications program internally and externally including website and social media coordination; directs marketing, branding and development activities; handles media relations including responding to crisis media calls and developing positive media stories; ensures coordinated agency message on all print and electronic media and agency materials; writes copy for brochures, articles, annual reports and event programs. Serves as agency ambassador at various community functions; develops strategies to improve community relations; serves as a member of Senior Management Team and serves on various committees; administers and prepares Division budget and personnel plan; oversees Communications Division.

The employee also writes speeches for board members and Executive Director; oversees professional and public education programs; presents oral/written materials to public groups as Agency spokesperson; develops special events and promotional opportunities for the agency; represents Agency on community task groups and committees.

Manages Community Outreach (including a small percentage of recruitment activities for foster and adoptive parents and volunteers); and manages Volunteer program.

Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Public Affairs, or related degree; Supervisory experience, and seven years of related experience.
• The successful candidate will have experience and demonstrated success in community collaboration; evidence of strong writing and editing skills, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and media crisis response skills.
• All positions are subject to a criminal background, fingerprinting, employment verification, and motor vehicle report check. Also, all offers of employment are contingent on receipt of a negative pre-employment drug test.
