Night editor 

The night editor serving the Pioneer Valley in western Massachusetts plays a key role in the news operations of the Daily Hampshire Gazette, located in Northampton. Founded in 1786, the Gazette is a winner of the New England Newspaper & Press Association’s “New England Newspaper of the Year.”

We seek a journalist with excellent news judgment. The qualified candidate must have strong editing, writing and copywriting skills. This could be a great fit for a reporter who is looking to transition into editing.

Along with other staff, the night editor will ensure that stories, photos, headlines and web posts get a careful final read before going out into the world, and will also work on page layout and other related tasks. Duties will include working with our reporters and wire services. 

The night editor will work Tuesday through Saturday (late afternoon through end of production), with Saturday being a day shift.

This position requires the ability to design pages, as the night editor is part of a shared desk team charged with editing, designing and building pages for various publications. It also requires working knowledge of content management systems, and familiarity with digital best practices. It’s a plus if you have experience producing stories for the web and social media.
