Company Description:

Full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor of digital media production. The Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication is searching for an experienced and visionary multimedia producer who is excited by change and can help shape the interdisciplinary digital media curriculum of the future. You would join a flexible, innovative team that collaborates on an award-winning program, as exemplified by the senior capstone website Urban Plains (urban-plains.com), which has won Broadcast Education Association Best of Festival multimedia awards two years in a row. We are especially interested in attracting a range of candidates that represent the human community in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, gender identification, religion, age and physical abilities. Extensive professional experience in the production of video and multimedia content is required, and evidence of teaching effectiveness is preferred. Master’s degree is preferred and required for a tenure-track position, but we are open to hiring an experienced professional with a bachelor’s degree for a consecutive-term appointment, on condition of completion of a master’s degree within three years. The qualified candidate will have demonstrated ability to train visual storytellers: to work with colleagues across disciplines to lead students in conceiving, creating, publishing and promoting rich multimedia content, especially audio/video, for all platforms and for all types of media outlets. Course load is three courses or nine credit hours per semester. Courses would include beginning and advanced video and audio storytelling and producing, and may include documentary/long-form video, sports reporting and producing, and special topics, depending on the faculty member’s interests and skills. Job also includes academic and career advising for students and advising student organizations, including the campus broadcasting system.

The Drake SJMC is a student-focused community of scholars with an emphasis on active, collaborative learning and applied scholarship. It is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition to digital media production, it offers areas of study in advertising, magazine media, news, public relations and strategic political communication.
