Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state. Founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans, today FSU serves a growing student body of nearly 6,000 and ranks among the nation’s most diverse campus communities. Fayetteville is located in the scenic Cape Fear River Valley of North Carolina, between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. The Department of Communication, Languages, and Cultures offers students a BA in Communication and a BA in Spanish with minors in Communication, Spanish, and Chinese Language and Culture. The Communication degree program is one of the newest programs at the University. We are the proud recipient of the College’s Department of the Year award 5 out of the last 7 years. The Department provides state-of-the-art facilities, including an Internet-based student radio station, a newly remodeled student television studio, multi-media production lab, audio production rooms, and a news editing room for the school’s newspaper.
