I love solving problems and finding newer, better problems. Right now, that means I'm trying to reinvent the workflows and reorder some of the hastily scrambled priorities of legacy media organizations.
I like combinations of things that most folks don't, and it helps me speak the languages of multiple departments wherever I work. I open DevTools with the same anticipation as when I open the front door on Sunday to pick up the New York Times. I enjoy libraries ranging from jQuery to Angular JS to Denver Public. I review books about coming of age in 1980s Philadelphia and books about a 400-year forecast for the demise of humankind at the hands (or whatever) of an alien civilization. I love intimate art-house films and cherish the "Star Wars" saga.
The two places I've worked longest professionally are the stand-up comedy stage and the newsroom -- places where you live and die by your timing, your ability to multi-task and to keep a cool head.
My ideal work situation remains the same as when I heard it said of "The Daily Show" writers' room more than a decade ago: Collaborative, challenging, deadline-driven work with people who can make me learn and laugh.
