The School of Journalism and Mass Communications at San Jose State University offers the most comprehensive media education curriculum in Northern California. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the program is recognized worldwide for excellence in higher education. It grants a bachelor’s degree in advertising, convergence journalism and public relations, and a master’s degree in mass communication. It has established dynamic educational partnerships with Adobe, Hewlett-Packard, Apple, NBC Bay Area and many other local companies and media agencies. It provides more than 500 students from diverse cultural communities in the Bay Area international learning opportunities. In 2013 the program received an extraordinary gift of $8.7 million from two long-time supporters of the program who wanted to insure perpetual technology upgrades and faculty training to help keep JMC School students competitive in the ever changing 21st century job market. The program now has a new state-of-the-art high definition television studio, numerous smart classrooms and computer labs for multimedia project development, an in-house communications agency working in a new collaborative 'creative suite' for project and campaign development with 'real world' clients. JMC School faculty take great pride in being contemporary and innovative in approach to media education. Enthusiastically they work to excite the minds of students by welcoming and encouraging their new ideas and approaches. Collectively the school is highly motivated by its long time motto to "Learn By Doing!". See us in action on YouTube:
