Job Description

Are you a master storyteller? Are you committed to racial justice? Are you a Digital Organizing Guru that moves people to take action? 
IndyCAN seeks a dynamic, justice-focused, communications strategist and online organizer that can hit the ground running. This is a pivotal role that will shape the moral compass of Indiana and elevate the voice of marginalized people in the public arena.

This position will be responsible for all internal and external communications, includes;
  • Shape IndyCAN’s brand and messaging strategy
  • Lead all aspects on IndyCAN’s online organizing program
  • Strengthen IndyCAN’s internal and external communications across the state, developing organizing tools that move people to action
  • Lead communications efforts in support of state and regional policy campaigns to maximize press coverage, drive media outreach and develop pitches for all external communications, develop and nurture media relationships
  • Work closely with multi-faith, multi-racial clergy and people directly impacted by racial and economic inequality to bring a people-centered, faith voice to all internal and external communications
  • Train staff, clergy, and volunteers leaders in strategic communication
  • Create compelling and creative visuals to advance social justice; video, photo, art
  • Ensure all communications strategies are data driven, tracking performance metrics

Job Requirements

Successful candidates will have led compelling communications efforts for grassroots, political, public relations firms, news media outlets, or other advocacy based non-profits. You should be able to:
  • Work at campaign pace without sacrificing quality
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritizing work effectively on deadlines
  • Build strong relationships and pitch local and national media
  • Write great copy under tight deadlines
  • Draw on an intersectional analysis of racialization and other forms of oppression
  • Coach people of diverse backgrounds
  • Experience digital online platforms like; Salsa, HTML, CSS,
  • Amazing story-telling capabilities to transform information into visual (video, photo, and graphic) and interactive executions, facility with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.), video editing software (Final Cut, etc.)
Personal Characteristics; Thrives under pressure, curious, loves people, do whatever it takes approach- has fun staying updated on latest technology, artistic and creative, detail oriented, can keep eye on big picture and execute at the same time, self-starter, constant learner, racial justice promoter. 

This position requires some travel and occasional evenings and weekend hours. Bilingual communicators strongly encouraged to apply.
